The Book of Hebrews and the Supremacy of Christ

The message of this great book is simply that "Christ is better."  He was better in the time of the writing of Hebrews, and Christ remains better to this very day.  The book clearly conveys that Christ is still a very present force working a profoundly powerful priestly ministry in the lives of His children.

Hebrews makes clear that Jesus exceeds all of our other pursuits.  He is greater than the angels or the prophets, He is greater than the Mosaic law that preceded Him, and our allegiance should hold steadfast to this Savior who will become the pearl of Heaven.  Jesus Christ is superior in every respect to all others who have previously been exalted.

The message of Hebrews concerning the superiority of Jesus would have been particularly important to Jewish Christians in Rome who were struggling under great pressure from traditional Judaism and Nero’s persecution and who were considering moving their lives back toward the Mosaic Law.  The writer to the Hebrews calls these Jewish Christian believers to a renewed faith and hope, for although they faced great persecution, they were following a "better" way.

The author of the letter to the Hebrews remains shrouded in mystery to this very day; however, that fact should not shake our confidence in its authority.

Pastor Keith guides this class on deep expository study of Hebrews,

many times breaking the text down to foundational Greek so the true intent

of the words are clearly understood.  Further, He examines how this great message

is applicable to our life, our faith, and our growing walk with the Lord today.
